Clinical Course Work
NDFS 300 and 356: Medical Nutritional Therapy
Renal Diet and Handouts
The kidneys are one of the essential organs in the body. When they fail, patients must make drastic lifestyle changes. For this assignment, I designed a one-day sample menu that meets nutrient requirements, including low sodium, potassium, and phosphorus, for patients following a renal diet. I also designed three handouts to use as teaching tools that each describe one of the three minerals of concern in renal failure.

Diabetic Patterns and Meal Plans
Diabetes is a disease that requires strict nutritional intervention. For this assignment, I created different six meal patterns for patients with varying caloric needs and situations. For three of these meal patterns, I created one-day sample menus. Afterwards, I chose one of these meal patterns and followed it to better understand the challenges that a patient with diabetes faces when deciding what to eat.

Osteoporosis and Case Study Presentation
With the aging population in the United States, it's important for dietitians to be familiar with diseases and conditions for older adults. For this assignment, my professor gave each student the opportunity to research a disease and present it to the glass in groups of three. I researched osteoporosis and wrote a paper outlining the disease profile. Then my teammates and I designed a presentation to give to the class, including a PowerPoint presentation, a brochure, and a case study.

Nutrition Support Calculations
|
|
There are many clinical conditions that make it difficult for patients to have adequate oral intake. For this assignment, I practiced calculating enteral and parenteral formula feedings to give sufficient nutrition to meet patient needs.
