About Me
I grew up in Morgan Hill, California and I will be graduating from Brigham Young University with a BS in dietetics in April 2016.
Growing up in California, I found my love of food, from the fresh fruits and vegetables grown on local farms, to the diversity of dishes from different cultures. I saw how food can bring people from all different backgrounds together. I also saw how a negative relationship with food can damage one's health, confidence, and self-esteem.
During the summer of 2016, I participated in a study abroad at the School of Agriculture for Family Independence in Malawi. While there, I researched methods for increasing nutrients of concern in their staple foods. I also learned how food plays very different roles within different cultures.
My passion within dietetics is two-fold. I encourage a holistic approach of empowering people to make the changes they need without getting trapped in negative cycles of failure. I also support cultural awareness and acceptance of different attitudes and practices towards food.
